May 27-31, 2011 5 Day Training

Open to 16 male cadets and 4 female cadets
(female cadets  will overnight ashore with qualified escort)
No SCUBA Qualification Required for the May 27-31 Training
Lake St. Clair and the St. Claire River
Embark:  Mt. Clemens, MI 
Disembark:  Mt. Clemens, MI
DAN Medical Certification or Renewal of certification:
Medical training in treating injuries from encountering hazardous marine life,
Oxygen Administration
Advanced Oxygen Administration
Defibrillator Training
Training in all aspects of ship operation; hands on experience
Drills: Man Overboard, Damage Control (collision), Fire Fighting,
Training in Engineering, Helm- Ship Handling, Navigation, Communications
Participation in Memorial Day Services Sunday and Monday

Training Cost:  $175 payable to NOF


June 16-20, 2011 5 Day

Open to 16 male cadets
No SCUBA Qualification Required
ADVANCED OPEN WATER DIVER TRAINING
Must be a Certified Diver!

Lake St. Clair to Port Austin and Alpena
Embark:  Mt. Clemens, MI 
Disembark:  Alpena, MI
Introduction to Great Lakes Geology, Archaeology and Anthropology
Combined training in Ship Operations and Small Boat Operations
in a geological exploration of ancient submerged reefs and petroglyph site.
Training and Certification in Dive Equipment Specialist
Training in Kayak use and construction
Training in all aspects of ship operation and hands on experience
Training in all aspects of ship operation; hands on experience
Drills: Man Overboard, Damage Control (collision), Fire Fighting,
Training in Engineering, Helm-Ship Handling, Navigation, Communications
Ship open for tours in Port Austin during festival.

Training Cost:  $175 payable to NOF  or
Training Cost:   $300.00 for Advanced Open Water Diver Training


July 1-10, 2011  10 Day SCUBA Training PADI Open Water Diver
Learn to Dive on Shipwrecks in Thunder Bay!

Open to 16 male cadets and 4 female cadets
(female cadets  will overnight ashore with qualified escort)
E-2 14 years minimum
Embark:  Alpena, MI
Disembark: Alpena, MI

No SCUBA Certification required for Open Water Diver
Basic SCUBA Training Certification NEW THIS YEAR !
Applicants must be able to swim basic strokes and be comfortable in the water
All equipment supplied except personal equipment-contact for details  248-420-7668
Train at the NOAA National Marine Sanctuary facility classroom and pool with open water dives on shallow shipwreck sites located in Thunder Bay.

Advanced Open Water Diver Certification
Applicants must be a certified diver.
Training in underwater navigation, buoyancy skills, deeper diving
Explore archaeological sites in Thunder Bay

Specialty Diver Training for Experienced Divers

All cadets will participate in:
Introduction to Marine Archaeology, Introduction to Anthropology
Dive from the 81ft Navy Ship “Pride of Michigan”
Training in all aspects of ship operation; hands on experience
Drills: Man Overboard, Damage Control (collision), Fire Fighting,
Training in Engineering, Helm-Ship Handling, Navigation, Communications

Training Cost: Advanced Open Water and Specialties $350 payable to NOF

Training Cost:  Basic SCUBA:  Open Water Diver Certification $395  payable to NOF
plus personal equipment purchase call for equipment package  price.


July 29- August 7, 2011   10 Day SCUBA  Training

Open to 16 male cadets and 4 female cadets
(female cadets  will overnight ashore with qualified escort)
E-2 14 years minimum; Must be a Certified diver.
Embark:  Alpena, MI;  Underway for St. Ignace, MI
Disembark: MT. Clemens, MI

Advanced Open Water Diver Certification
Applicants must be a certified diver. Training in underwater navigation, improve
buoyancy skills and explore archaeological sites in Thunder Bay

Specialty Diver Training for Experienced Divers

All cadets will participate in:
Introduction to Marine Archaeology and underwater geology
Dive from the 81ft Navy Ship “Pride of Michigan” to explore the largest
shipwrecks in the Great Lakes some of which are pre-Cival War era.
Underwater Robotics(ROV) Operations.  Introduction to SONAR exploration and mapping,
Training in all aspects of ship operation; hands on experience
Drills: Man Overboard, Damage Control (collision), Fire Fighting,
Training in Engineering, Helm-Ship Handling, Navigation, Communications

Training Cost: Advanced Open Water and Specialties $350 payable to NOF


QUALIFICATIONS/PRE-REQUISITES:

E-2 or above and minimum 14 years of age, mature
Very good physical condition
Must be a certified diver unless otherwise indicated
Must fit within normal height to weight ratios
Unit CO recommendation confirming the above.

Copy of  Diver Certification Card(s) where required
Copy of School Grades
Copy of  Dive Log Book showing past 1-2 years dive experience if certified
Must have current DAN Insurance proof (copy of DAN card) if certified

Liability forms and medical forms will be sent to accepted applicants and must be
        signed by cadet and parent or guardian and returned by mail prior to the
        date the training begins. This applies to DIVER Training ONLY.

New for 2011:  Open Water Diver Certification! Learn to DIVE!
NO PRIOR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED. MUST BE ABLE TO SWIM BASIC STROKES, & BE COMFORTABLE IN WATER.

July 1- 10 Session ONLY also Advanced Open Water  for certified divers.

Two 10 Day SCUBA Trainings &  Underwater Exploration  & Research
Two 5 Day  Training Seamanship, May session Medical for Dive Injuries; June session Equipment Specialist and Ancient Reef Exploration.
5 DAY  trainings and Open Water Diver do not require that the cadet is certified diver.
